Meet the Team

We're a small team with decades of coffee experience between us. Learn a little bit more about the people behind the coffee you enjoy.

Julia

Head Roaster

Q-Grader

Her first proper coffee job was with Taylor Street Baristas. She had just come back from a few months travelling and was toying with the idea of 'maybe-one-day' opening a coffee shop. She ended up there somewhat by chance, but it was an incredible place with incredible people, and it's where she went from loving coffee shops to loving coffee.

As Head Roaster, Julia is responsible for making sure your coffee is tasting at its best, designing profiles and managing the production team and QC process. When she doesn’t have her head stuck inside the roaster or concentrating over complicated looking graphs, she loves to do all the typical stuff London-based coffee professionals do: visiting cafes, riding a single speed, drinking craft beer and natural wine, eating/making food, sauna-ing (the list goes on). She can also be found running (when not injured) or taking big multi-day hikes in the mountains. If you speak to her anywhere between April and June she will probably manage to bring up Glastonbury…

Jamie

Wholesale Sales and Account Management

Jamie’s love for specialty began when he picked up an Aeropress out of curiosity and brewed up some pre-ground Ethiopian coffee from the supermarket. Shortly after he tried his first flat white whilst checking out the pancakes in a café a few miles north of where he lives. That was when he knew he wanted a career in either coffee or food and we are lucky he chose the coffee path!

Day to day, Jamie makes sure all of our amazing wholesale partners are looked after and supported. While also bringing on new cafes and businesses that would love to serve PLOT. Jamie's role is extremely varied, one minute he can be at a customers fixing a faulty grinder, training staff, helping open a new coffee shop, or hosting an evening cupping event. No day is the same!

When not looking after our wholesale clients and problem solving, Jamie likes to spend his free time hanging out with his fiancé and their two young daughters.

Alexa

Head of Training

UK Cup Tasters Champion 2024, Q-Grader, SCA AST, SCA UK Sensory Judge

Passionate about both education and coffee, Alexa first got into home brewing over COVID and wanted to learn more. Since the pandemic she went on to work at some of London’s premier cafes and started competing, winning the Cup Tasters championship in 2024!

A long-time friend of PLOT, she finally came to work with us this year, heading up our education program. Alexa describes her role as “playing with coffee gadgets and hopefully positively impacting coffee nerds through fun learning and education”.

Aside from coffee she has two major passions: bottomless brunch and karaoke.

Agnieska

Production

Agnieska describes her journey into coffee as a happy accident. Over a decade ago she was working in the canteen at Sky TV and was asked to cover breaks for her colleagues in the coffee van. After showing a keen interest, she was given barista training and soon moved into a training role herself. Since then she’s gone on to manage and help open several cafes
around London before settling into her role with us as one of the key members
of the production team.

Around the roastery, you can find Ags quietly just bossing it every day in production. She is also a keen fan of country music with the cowboy boots to prove it and is teaching herself how to line dance. In her free time, if she’s not travelling to discover new places and admire nature she’ll be sat on the sofa with her cat, crocheting.

Lily

Production

SCA AST Barista Skills, SCA UK Sensory Judge

Lily started her career like many, as an untrained barista making terrible coffee. Her career began officially however in 2015 when she landed a job as a trainer and fell in love with coffee. 10 years later and she’s still obsessed!

You can find Lily working as part of the dynamic production team, roasting, packing, fulfilling orders and playing a pivotal role in our QC process.

Outside of work, she loves to practice Karate, go to gigs, the cinema and play board games with friends. Otherwise you’ll likely find her on an adventure in nature, like she says “when in doubt, holiday”.

Matthew

Founder/Green Buyer

Q-Grader, SCA AST – Roasting, Green Coffee, Sensory Skills, Brewing

Matthew has been in the industry since 2009 when he co-founded a micro-chain of specialty cafes in Brighton. Deciding that he wanted to be more hands-on with coffee rather than dealing with the day to day of running a business, he started roasting and has since worked in various roasting, training and consulting roles across London and the South East before founding PLOT in 2019.

He can be found around the roastery teaching SCA courses, fixing stuff, writing for the website or looking for his phone. In his free time Matthew loves collecting vinyl, playing drums, cycling, reading or watching movies.
