ALEJO CASTRO, Hacienda Colima Natural
This is an exceptionally high quality lot from one of the best producers in Costa Rica. So much tropical fruit, like pineapple and passion fruit with a creamy body and caramel sweetness.
CULTIVAR: Red Caturra
LOCATION: Naranjo, Vallée Centrale
ALTITUDE: 1,400 - 1,500 masl
Alejo belongs to the fifth generation of coffee growers in his family. The Castro and Kahlo families have been producing coffee for 200 years and have farms located in both the Central and West Valleys and also in the Tarrazú region.
The family’s Hacienda Colima farm in the Central valley has produced this outstanding natural micro-lot of Caturra. The attention to detail is apparent here, as each lot from this farm is truly outstanding.
Located at the edges of the Barva Volcano, the coffee trees are planted at relatively high altitudes in particularly fertile volcanic soil that benefits from plenty of good organic matter.
Alejo has a passion for experimenting with different varieties and processes and each year tries his hand at innovating, combining, concocting and refining his coffees just like an alchemist.
